Ray Evans was born in Liverpool, England, in 1933 into a family of seven. At the outbreak of World War II, at the age of six, he was evacuated to the small town of Llanelli in South Wales, where he remained until the end of the war in 1945. He returned to Liverpool to his family and they rebuilt their lives after the war. Ray went on to marry his wife, Lilian in 1956, and they have one son, a daughter and six grandchildren.
