“I’ve been waiting for the follow-up to “Before The Last All Clear” for a while. I have to say I was a bit worried at first that I may have set myself up for a disappointment, the first book was so good. “All I Want Is A Peaceful World…and a Pork Pie!” is an excellent read in it’s own right, but having read the first book I already felt like I knew Ray, and for sure I was rooting for him from the start. It’s great to read about “real” people, born into a very ordinary family, building an extraordinary life for themselves, form nothing. Thanks for sharing more of your story with us Ray, I’m looking forward to reading more from you more often on your blog.”

I read this book to my elderly Mother, we were both riveted from the start! I found the stories gave me an ‘escape’ from the stresses in my own life and helped me appreciate that we all struggle in different ways but those who stay the course win in more ways than we could ever hope to.
My father fought in WW2 and lived through a similar period to Ray. But I never got a chance to talk to him about this period in his life. I actually feel that the author has opened up some of my own history and made it available to me. Can’t thank him enough.

I’m not much of a reader but I blasted through this book in four days. It’s an easy, fast enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to following your blog posts!

I read “Before The Last All Clear” a couple of years ago and was desperate to know what happened next. I’m very happy to say I found this book just as easy to read and equally as hard to put down! Well done Ray and thank you for sharing your life stories with all of us not just your family.

After reading Ray’s first book I was looking forward to finding out what happened to him upon his return to Liverpool. “All I Want Is A Peaceful World and a Pork Pie!” didn’t disappoint! It was a really quick read, basically because I couldn’t put it down. I have always loved history as told through the lives of the people who lived it! Ray tells his story with warmth and humor, from the perspective of a regular guy trying to navigate an uncertain future. Ray, like his country, has been knocked down but his spirit is stronger for the experience. The courageous, mischievous little boy in “Before The Last All Clear” grew into a self-reliant, innovative young husband and father.

“All I Want Is A Peaceful World…and a Pork Pie!” is the perfect sequel to Mr. Evans’s first book, “Before the Last All Clear”. The story picks up with the family reuniting and learning to live together again. Just as we learned of Ray’s strength and determination to survive in his first book, that determination follows him through live in his many adventures as an entrepreneur and provider. The story easily guides the reader through the remainder of Ray’s childhood, into his young adult life and finally into family-hood; many times with both ups and downs, but always with that never ending determination. He’s a true inspiration and I am once again honored to have had the chance to read his story.
